Vancouver Island is located in a very active earthquate zone, 400 to 500 small one ocurring every year. And we all know the big one will hit us someday in the future.
Although some homeowners living on the island are willing to buy earthquate insurance just for peace of mind, sadly, not every policy holder wants to carry this kind of insurance.
Being preparing is somthing we can do right now. The 2012 BC Building Code has been updated in regard to seismic design of houses. “These new requirements are meant to help bring a higher level of safety in the event of an earthquake or other significant seismic activity.”
